Arab Women Lack Vitamin D

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta - Arab Women's pregnant high-risk for vitamin D deficiency because they cover the entire body from sunlight to absorb vitamin D. This is one of the study conclusions Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, announced yesterday.

"Vitamin D deficiency is a disease which is common in Arab women," said research team leader Adekunle Dawodu. "But this is very dangerous for pregnant women and unborn children."

Adekunle Dawodu, who was a physician at the Center for Global Child Health, Cincinnati Children said the vitamin D deficiency causes rickets disease. The study involved 105 people of Arab women who are pregnant by taking their blood samples at an early stage when the pregnancy until the postpartum.

The result, 76 percent of pregnant women who become research sample had levels of vitamin D is only 25 nanomole per liter. Whereas every person should have vitamin D levels of at least 50 nanomole per liter.
